To maintain a healthy diet, we need to be eating a variety of foods from all of the five food groups; vegetables, legumes & beans, fruit, dairy, grains (cereals) and lean meats, poultry, fish and eggs. Most people daily need to consume more vegetables and fruits and reduce the amounts of processed foods and foods containing high amounts of sugar and salt.
The amount of food you should be eating from each food per day will be determined by your age and gender, and for women it will also be dependent on whether you are breastfeeding or pregnant.
Being aware of how much of each type of food we’re eating has plenty of benefits including; feeling more energized, getting more vitamins and minerals, feeling less bloated and sluggish and allowing your body to function better overall.
